Many people use the terms accountant and CPA interchangeably, but there are several big differences.  The CPA, (Certified Public Accountant) credential carries enormous weight in business and financial circles. This is reflected in the wide array of career opportunities—in public accounting, business, and industry, government, and education—for CPAs and the strong employment outlook.

CPA licensure requires:
Education & Experience & Examination

The Maine Board of Accountancy grants a Certificate of Certified Public Accountant to a person who:

  • Satisfies the experience requirements
  • Files an application for a CPA Certificate with the Maine Board of Accountancy and pays required fees
